HSM RADIOLOGY CENTER
Coronary CT Angiography - Heart Scan
Early detection of coronary artery disease and heart attack risk, before symptoms appear
ABOUT THIS EXAMINATION
What is Coronary CT Angiography?
Coronary CT Angiography is a non-invasive imaging examination that produces detailed three-dimensional images of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply oxygen to the heart muscle. It visualizes plaque buildup, arterial narrowing and blockages that can cause heart attacks, often years before any symptoms appear. Unlike traditional invasive angiography, there is no catheter, no general anesthesia and no recovery time. The actual scan takes under two minutes and you can drive home the same day.

TECHNOLOGY
Two World-Class Equipments
HSM Radiology Center is one of the very few centers in Turkey operating both Photon Counting CT and high-slice CT for coronary imaging. Both deliver superior diagnostic accuracy compared to conventional CT scanners, at lower radiation doses. The appropriate platform for your case is determined by our clinical team based on your individual factors.
Siemens NAEOTOM Alpha — Photon Counting CT
The world's most advanced CT system. Photon counting detectors register each individual X-ray photon independently, eliminating all electronic noise from the image. The result is unprecedented spatial resolution and the lowest radiation doses achievable in coronary CT angiography. This platform is particularly valuable for patients with heavy coronary calcification or existing stents, where conventional CT often produces image artifacts that limit diagnostic confidence.
1152-Slice CT
Ultra-fast coronary imaging captured in a single breath hold. Sub-millimeter resolution across the entire coronary tree with a minimized radiation dose. Fully capable of diagnostic-grade coronary angiography for the full range of patients.
WHO IS THIS FOR
Is This Scan Right for You?
Coronary CT Angiography is recommended for individuals with cardiac risk factors, unexplained symptoms, or as part of a comprehensive health evaluation. It is also among the most frequently requested examinations by our international patients, who value a definitive cardiac assessment without hospitalization or invasive procedures.
Chest pain, shortness of breath or jaw and arm pain without a confirmed cause
Family history of heart disease or early heart attacks under age 60
High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or obesity
Current or former smokers, particularly over age 45
Inconclusive or borderline stress test results
Pre-surgical evaluation for heart valve replacement or bypass planning
Patients with existing stents or bypass grafts requiring follow-up imaging
ABOUT CONTRAST
This Scan is Performed With Contrast Agent
Coronary CT Angiography requires an intravenous iodine-based contrast agent. Without it, coronary arteries cannot be distinguished from surrounding cardiac tissue, making accurate assessment of plaque, narrowing and blockages impossible. As the contrast travels through the coronary arteries, it makes the blood inside the vessels appear bright white on the CT images, allowing Prof. Dr. Ozates to see precisely where the artery narrows, where plaque has accumulated and whether any blockages are present.
Iodine contrast agents are used in millions of CT examinations globally every year and have an excellent safety profile. You may feel a brief warm sensation or notice a metallic taste as the contrast is injected, both are completely normal and pass within seconds. Before your appointment, our team screens you for allergy history and kidney function. You should avoid caffeine for 12 hours before your scan, as caffeine raises heart rate and may affect image quality.
CLINICAL SCOPE
What This Scan Can Detect
Coronary CT Angiography provides a comprehensive evaluation of the coronary arteries and cardiac structures, delivering information that was previously only accessible through invasive catheterization.
Coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic plaque
Anomalous coronary artery anatomy
Arterial narrowing and blockages
Coronary stent patency and bypass graft assessment
Soft plaque, which is the type most prone to rupture and heart attack
Heart attack risk assessment before symptoms appear
Calcified plaque and coronary calcium scoring
Pre-surgical cardiac structural evaluation
YOUR EXPERIENCE
What to Expect on the Day
Your total visit is approximately one hour, though the actual scan takes under fifteen minutes. Here is what happens from arrival to discharge.
01
Preparation
No caffeine for 12 hours before. Fast for 4 hours before. Take any prescribed beta blocker as instructed by our team. Inform us of any allergies, kidney conditions or current medications.
02
Arrival and Setup
Our team places an IV line in your arm and attaches EKG electrodes to monitor your heart rate. Heart rate medication may be given if needed to ensure optimal image quality.
03
The Scan
You lie on the CT table and hold your breath for under 15 minutes while the scanner acquires images. The contrast agent is injected during the scan. You may feel brief warmth or a metallic taste — both are normal and pass immediately.
04
Your Report
Your coronary images are interpreted personally by Prof. Dr. Ozates. A comprehensive written report is delivered following your appointment. You may drive home the same day with no recovery time required.
