HSM RADIOLOGY CENTER
Whole Body MRI - Cancer Screening
Early detection of tumors and metastases across all organs, before symptoms appear
ABOUT THIS EXAMINATION
What is Whole Body Diffusion MRI?
Whole Body MRI is a radiation-free imaging technique that scans the entire body from head to thigh in a single session. With 3 Tesla magnetic field strength, which is double the power of standard MRI systems, it detects abnormal cell activity across all organs and tissues simultaneously. This enables early identification of tumors and metastases before any symptoms appear. Every scan is performed with gadolinium contrast agent and interpreted personally by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ozates with AI diagnostic support.
AT A GLANCE
3 Tesla Whole Body Diffusion MRI
Performed with gadolinium contrast agent
Radiation-free with zero X-ray exposure
Approximately 60 minute scan
AI-assisted diagnosis
Results reviewed by Prof. Dr. Ozates
TECHNOLOGY
Why 3 Tesla and Not 1.5 Tesla
3 Tesla MRI produces twice the image resolution of the standard 1.5 Tesla systems used in most hospitals. This means smaller lesions are detected earlier and with greater diagnostic confidence. At HSM, all body imaging is performed exclusively on 3 Tesla, combined with AI-assisted analysis to ensure nothing is missed across hundreds of anatomical regions.
WHO IS THIS FOR
Is This Scan Right for You?
Whole Body MRI is particularly suited to patients with elevated risk factors or a strong personal or family history of cancer. It is also one of our most requested examinations by international patients seeking a comprehensive imaging session during their visit to Istanbul.
Adults over 40 seeking a comprehensive cancer baseline with no current symptoms
Personal or family history of cancer including breast, colorectal, prostate, pancreatic or ovarian cancer
Unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue or pain without a clear diagnosis
Patients monitoring known oncological conditions or in post-treatment follow-up
Individuals preferring a radiation-free alternative to CT or PET/CT screening
International patients seeking a single comprehensive body scan in one visit
ABOUT CONTRAST
This Scan is Performed With Contrast Agent
We use an intravenous gadolinium-based contrast agent for this scan. Gadolinium travels through the bloodstream and highlights areas of abnormal tissue, making tumors and lesions appear brighter and more distinct on the images. This allows Prof. Dr. Ozates to assess not just whether a lesion exists but its characteristics, giving you a more complete and clinically meaningful report.
Gadolinium is one of the most well-tolerated agents in diagnostic imaging. It does not contain iodine. Before your scan, our team screens you for kidney function, pregnancy and prior contrast reactions. If you have significantly impaired kidney function, an alternative protocol will be arranged.
CLINICAL SCOPE
What This Scan Can Detect
Whole Body Diffusion MRI with contrast covers the body's solid organs, lymphatic system, skeletal structures and soft tissues in a single session.
Primary tumors of the liver, kidneys, pancreas and spleen
Lymph node enlargement and early metastatic involvement
Bone marrow lesions and skeletal metastases
Soft tissue masses and retroperitoneal pathologies
Prostate, uterine and ovarian abnormalities
Adrenal gland lesions
Peritoneal disease and abdominal metastatic spread
Spinal cord and paraspinal soft tissue lesions
This examination does not replace organ-specific targeted MRI (such as dedicated prostate or cardiac MRI) or mammography and colonoscopy for their respective indications. Our clinical team will advise if additional targeted imaging is warranted following your results.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
What to Expect on the Day
Your appointment is straightforward and unhurried. Here is what happens from the moment you arrive at any of our Istanbul locations.
01
Preparation
Fast for 4 hours before your appointment. Avoid water for 2 hours before. Remove all jewelry and metal. Inform us in advance of any allergies or kidney conditions.
02
Arrival and Setup
Our team confirms your medical history and places a small IV cannula in your arm for the contrast injection. You change into a gown.
03
The Scan
You lie still on the MRI table for approximately 60 minutes. The contrast is injected mid-scan. There is no pain and no radiation. Loud knocking sounds from the machine are completely normal.
04
Your Report
Your images are interpreted personally by Prof. Dr. Ozates with AI diagnostic support. A comprehensive written report is delivered following your appointment. You may drive home the same day.
